Robbie in Exile

Standard

Not only has he set aside a musical comeback this year, Robbie Williams has taken on the radical dictator look. The Guardian has details of a trek writer Jon Ronson took with Robbie recently into the Nevada desert to learn about aliens and the people intrigued by them.

This is just SO Robbie. Give it a read…definite entertainment!

The experience will actually be presented on Radio 4 early next month (May 6). It’s called “Robbie Williams And Jon Ronson Journey To The Other Side” – it’s bound to be amusing…er, informative. (Sorry, Rob.)

Robbie splits from Guy Chambers – again

Standard

All the music news sites have jumped on the latest news out of the Robbie Williams camp today.  It seems that Robbie has once again slammed the door in Guy’s face.  Gigwise, ContactMusic and other sources are claiming that he blew up upon discovering that Guy was simultaneously working with Take That members on a reality TV program.

I can see where that would sit well with Robbie, but I’d been hearing rumors for weeks now that the Williams-Chambers reunion hadn’t been fruitful regardless.  It’s difficult to capture lightning in a bottle twice.  Sad to hear that as I was genuinely excited at the prospect of new material from them both.  I love a well-crafted pop tune and when it’s sang by a cheeky Robbie Williams it’s even sweeter.

Same rumor has it that Robbie’s material he’s collected for his next project is so disjointed no one knows how to make it work.  I’d say just put out a series of EPs.  Don’t pull an ‘Axl’ on us, Robbie!

Hope for pop music?

Standard

It seems as though there is a small glimmer of hope for the world of Pop.  Two major labels are feeling frustrated with their divas (Jive/Britney) and (Sony BMG/J-Lo).  Jive can’t get Brit-Brit to promote her new album.  And it’s costing Sony/BMG more moola than it’s worth to keep Lopez happy while she’s promoting hers.

Factor in losing those high-end artists to internet deals (like Madonna) and maybe, just maybe the labels will start to nurture some young talent.  I know that’s asking a lot, but something’s gotta give.

One person who has seen the light is pop-God, Robbie Williams.  It’s been rumored for a few months that we would finally see Robbie patch things up with former collaborator, Guy Chambers, and make some more great music.  With a talk from Kylie (and maybe a touch of pixie dust), the two seem to have put the past behind them.  I cannot wait for some new Williams/Chambers-pennned tunes!
