I always love getting updates on my favorite underground artists and yesterday word broke that David J (Bauhaus) is writing and directing a play this spring in Los Angeles. It’s based on the intriguing Edie Sedgewick who is such a mysterious figure.
The play will have a limited engagement (March 6-16) in Los Angeles at The Met Theatre. Then it could make it to off-Broadway in the Fall. Production will be made up of musical performance art that includes a live band.
A MySpace page has been created, so expect future updates via bulletins and such. Here are some quotes about the production:
Based on the life of Edie Sedgwick – Andy Warhol’s brilliant muse – the stage production explores one of the most charismatic yet misunderstood figures in popular culture. Starring multifaceted performer Monique Jenkinson ( aka Fauxnique ) as Edie and Steven Price ( founder of the Ronin Ensemble ) as Norich, the wounded healer, Silver For Gold traces the heroine’s dazzling rise and eventual downward spiral in a mythological theatrical experience that is part one-woman show, part rock concert replete with avant-garde minimalist staging and video imagery.
Incidental music for the production is a collaboration with Azam Ali (of the bestselling world music duo Vas), Loga Ramin Torkian (also of Vas and the world music group Axiom of Choice) and Marcelo Radulovich (Merry Go Down). The production’s video installation & sound is by Ego Plum (Ebola Music Orchestra).
