You may remember that Johnny Marr was named to be a music professor at Salford. The Guardian talks to him about that role and generally has a nice chat with the guitarist.
The guy has a lot going on. In the piece he talks about what made him so driven, his parents’ love of music and some advice he plans to share about management with the Salford students. There’s a zinger as well and it’s completely made my day.
Check out this passage from the Guardian interview:
Almost every other band on earth has reformed at some point or other, so what about The Smiths. He looks at me blankly. You know, for Live8 or something like that, I struggle.
He laughs out loud. “If we did, it wouldn’t be for anything like Live8. In fact, maybe the only thing that would get us together would be for something that was the very antithesis. And if Bob Geldof promised not to be involved.”
Marr indeed rocks.
