Late night talk

Standard

Are you guys set for the late night changes NBC has lined up for next year?  I always stick to Dave, but I will be curious how things will come out on the ‘other’ network .

NBC is going to have Leno, Conan and Fallon to choose from and out of those three I’m rooting for Fallon.  He has to be better than Conan.  I just don’t find Conan amusing at all.  He’s no better an interviewer than Leno and his laugh turns my stomach.

If it weren’t for the band bookings on his show there would be no reason to watch.  I think NBC is really hanging themselves out on a limb.

Jimmy makes me feel like I’m rooting for one of my friends.  Hope he does well with his new show.  Here’s his video blog if you want to follow along.

Things to ponder on a Friday afternoon

Standard

Watch out, I’m actually writing a real blog post!

Going thru the news today there are a few things to talk about, but not worth devoting an entire post.  For instance, did you see where Amy Winehouse was arrested?  Wouldn’t it be wild to put Amy in the same cell block along with Pete Doherty and Wesley Snipes.  If walls could talk…

Last night I went out with friends to see Kids In The Hall here in K.C.  I luv the Kids and they didn’t disappoint.  Overall I enjoyed how they randomly inserted some pop culture references.  My favorite of the night was a knock on Coldplay.   One couple was discussing how the other couple’s baby was mean-looking.  The wife suggested the husband sing to the baby:  “I can’t.  All that comes to mind when I look at the baby is songs of slavery, human suffering and ‘Yellow’ by Coldplay!”  🙂

It was a thrill to see them live – my favorite sketch was Dave Foley explaining to Kevin MacDonald why he believes his imaginary girlfriend was cheating on him.   Those guys have such chemistry they could make any scenario funny.

Hey…did you see that Jimmy Fallon will take over Conan’s spot when he moves to the Tonight Show?  That just might work.

Enough with the antics, time to get back to work.

Greg Kot chats it up w/Conan

Standard

Sound Opinion co-hosts, Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot were invited to appear on Conan the day after the Grammy Awards were given out.  The late night TV program has given exposure to many an up-and-coming band.  But Kot and DeRogatis were asked about what happens when bands aren’t too happy with their criticism.  Kot had a funny story about a phone call from Bono after a particular review.

They also bantered about bands they don’t ‘get.’  We all have them.  The guests were pretty on target with my own tastes – I’ve wondered why Dave Matthews is a draw.

Kot shares the video segment along with what they talked about during commercial in his Chicago Tribune column, Turn It Up.  Great job, Greg!
